Our Pastor

Growing up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, our pastor, Jeffrey A. Johnson, was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church (Perkins, MI) and was graduated from Rock High School (Rock, MI).  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Gustavus Adolphus College (St. Peter, MN) in 1980 and his Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary (Columbus, OH) in 1984.

MG 7863 Pastor Johnson's first parish was Bethany Lutheran Church (rural Wisconsin Rapids, WI) followed by a youth ministry position at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church (Flagstaff, AZ).  Together with his wife, Mary K. Johnson, the Johnsons served as missionaries in Papua New Guinea followed by nine years of campus ministry with Lutheran Campus Ministry in Flagstaff, Arizona.  For the last nine years, the Johnsons were again serving as missionaries, this time on the island of Guam where Pastor Jeff helped lead the Lutheran Church of Guam and Mary both taught and administered at the Pacific Islands University (where Pastor Jeff also occasionally taught).

The Johnsons returned to northern Arizona on January 1, 2012 and Pastor Johnson began his new pastorate at Peace Lutheran Church on January 15, 2012.  God willing, he hopes to continue in this capacity until retirement.  With his background in mission development, youth/young adult ministry and cross-cultural ministry, we believe Pastor Johnson is an excellent fit for our situation here in Holbrook.

Jeff and Mary have four grown children: Joe in San Jacinto, CA; Matt in Fountain Hills, AZ; Liz in Castle Rock, CO; and Andrew just returned from Guam and living, temporarily, in Holbrook.  They also have seven grandchildren.

The Johnsons enjoy spending time with their family, working in their yard and garden in Holbrook, reading, camping and enjoying the company of visiting friends and family.
